History Of The Firm
we earned the trust of thousands by doing everything we can to get what they deserve
The firm began in 2001 in Shreveport, LA, by Trey Morris, and initially practiced many different types of law from corporate, family, and insurance. Quickly, the firm found its niche in personal injury law and its edge in trial preparation and litigation. As a plaintiff law firm, the initial challenge was to succeed against larger, more established firms and corporations. The key was preparation. A firm has to spend time and money on experts, jury analysis, focus groups, and document review to force the defense to come to the table with a fair offer and necessary compensation. Preparation signals to opposing counsel that the defense of their clients will be challenging. Many times, this is what is necessary to settle a case.
“The fastest way to settle a case is to prepare for trial. Insurance companies know which firms will go to court and which will not. It is important to choose a firm that will go the distance.” Trey Morris
Morris & Dewett gained a reputation as a great personal injury trial firm that works harder than anyone to win cases. Still, we are also just as passionate about helping our communities. Serving our clients is our highest calling, and we passionately advocate for their needs and represent their interests. The injured, especially victims of negligence, have a story to tell, and we owe it to them to listen. Morris & Dewett is proud to help our clients tell their stories in their communities or in court.
Morris & Dewett is a premier injury firm in the United States serving the citizens of Louisiana and Texas. We have diligently built our reputation as hard-hitting trial lawyers who genuinely care about our clients’ victories and well-being. Second-best is not an option; we prepare every case we take for trial, even if a settlement is likely.
We start with advanced research, independent expert insight, depositions, and mock trials. We have the capital and resources to fund and research each case thoroughly and can handle cases of any complexity without going outside the company. Keeping everything in-house means it stays under our control and up to our high standards.
Insurance companies know us by name thanks to our incredible track record of success. They know we will take them to court when they mistreat our clients or offer them a lousy settlement. We have more successful trials than anyone else. Our trial experience and reputation mean that 95% of our cases settle with fair value. Our firm’s hard work has delivered many million-dollar verdicts and settlements from seven to nine figures. We prepare 100% of our cases for trial, but only 5% of them require it.
More than half of our cases in Louisiana and Texas come from referrals from other attorneys. They recognize that Morris & Dewett can handle the tough cases they can’t. In addition, we have over 1,200 reviews from satisfied clients across our locations, thanks to the results we’ve achieved for them and the care we provide.
In the wake of a severe accident, there are several important issues that all parties must address. Unfortunately, victims of accidents often cannot focus on their or their families’ recovery and handle all the associated legal affairs. Morris & Dewett developed a legal workflow that navigates the legal complexities of bringing a case to completion. A priority in the process is communication and keeping the client fully informed. The burden is taken off the client but keeps them fully informed and included in the legal process. It frees our clients to focus on their health, recovery, and caring for their families.
The process starts when a client retains Morris & Dewett. We go to work and relieve the clients of the legal burdens while helping them gain the proper medical attention. We contact the other party’s insurance company, investigate the evidence in the case, contact all relevant witnesses, line up expert testimony, depose opposition witnesses, and ultimately bring the case to a satisfactory conclusion.
