HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO FILE A LAWSUIT?

Accident victims only have a certain amount of time in which to file a lawsuit or claim seeking compensation for their injuries. The statute of limitations on personal injury lawsuits in our state is one year from the date of injury. The only exception is when an individual’s injury was not immediately discovered.

In this circumstance, the law may allow a victim to file a lawsuit, as long as it is within three years of the initial accident date. The type of accident you are involved in does not matter, as the statute applies to cases involving medical malpractice, car accidents, product liability, slip & fall and more. Any delay in filing could put your right to pursue justice through the legal system at risk.

If you have sustained serious injury in an accident, we advise you not to wait to hire a Shreveport personal injury attorney from our firm to represent your case.
