PHYSICIAN WORKLOAD AND MEDICAL MALPRACTICE

If you are a full time worker in any occupation, you realize how important tit is that your job is accomplished; and in order to do so it requires time and effort. Sure, we all have our stressful and difficult days at work, and at times we may be required to work over time; however in most cases those who work 9-5 jobs likely get to stick with that. It is very possible that at times that we have more on our plate than we can handle, and yet we do what is necessary to get it done; even if it takes a few sleepless nights. We try to stay optimistic that whatever happens, our sleep schedule will be back to normal after our project is successfully completed. If you have a desk job, or anything else for that matter, it is likely that you have those ups and downs; and yet overall you maintain a fairly regular work and sleeping schedule.

Those in the medical field, however are not as fortunate. The majority of doctors and other professionals are continually being stretched physically and mentally, often working off of little or no sleep in order work those long shifts sometimes days in a row. As a result of this, patients are suffering and the likelihood of medical malpractice ever increases. According to studies conducted by the JAMA Internal medicine journal, they questioned 506 doctors and discovered that over 40%of them admitted to feeling as though their workload is so high that it places their patients in danger.

This same group of participating doctors also reported that they have actually had patients suffer from their actions. 10 doctors reported that their actions caused them to need more medical attention, another 7 reported that it caused complications, and 5 have admitted to patients dying as a result. While these numbers may not be large, it is only out of a small group of physicians; and the true number is likely much larger.

Being overworked and tired can have disastrous affect son our daily life as it is, and yet when it comes to medical professionals they are not only responsible for their own lives but also for those they are caring for. Therefore, if you are a victim of medical malpractice, this could potentially be a cause. While it is terrible that the doctors are being overworked, no patient should have to suffer for this because of their employers irresponsibility and carelessness.
