WRONGFUL DEATH SUIT FILED FOR OILFIELD GENERATED RADIOACTIVITY

The surviving family members have filed a lawsuit against numerous oil companies on behalf of a man who died of esophageal cancer. According to the plaintiffs, back in 2002, the man had filed a personal injury lawsuit due to oilfield generated radioactivity (OGR). In his line of work, he was regularly inspecting and working with drill pipes, many of which were polluted according to the plaintiffs. The wrongful death suit alleges that companies had failed to provide adequate warnings about OGR, as well as to get rid of OGR waste, to monitor its presence, to place warnings on pipes with OGR, and to have committed other negligence. The family is seeking an unnamed amount in damages for pain and suffering, medical bills, lost wages, funeral expenses, and wrongful death.

No matter how hazardous one’s career is, workers still have a right to a reasonably safe workplace. If another’s negligence has caused serious harm to you or a loved one, then you likely are entitled to damages. You may be able to get what you need from workers’ compensation in order to cover medical costs and lost wages. But if there was a particularly heinous act of negligence, then you may be owed additional compensation from a lawsuit.

Even though no amount of payouts can suffice for a tragic injury or illness, if a family wins the compensation that it deserves for someone else’s negligence, this can help remove the financial adversity that the family faces. No one should have to pay for another’s negligence. Whether you need help wrangling for a fair amount from workers’ compensation, or whether you need assistance for your claim, a Shreveport personal injury lawyer from Morris & Dewett Injury Lawyers may be able to help. Contact our firm today to learn how we can fight for your full rights.
